CityVote takes a visual turn

This half of CityVote is taking a decidedly visual turn for the next little while. I’ll be blunt: I was having trouble breaking out of my “rant mode” with written text. It comes too easily. CityVote and this space needs to be a conversation and my role is to provoke that. I’ve had some amazing people ask me to help them tell their stories. I can’t think of a better way than to teach them how to do it themselves.
Making the invisible visible will be the theme of the audio/video project. My team at MediaStyle.ca is going to help teach people how to use the tools and guide them in creating messages to Ottawa candidates.
I was inspired by the work of Nancy White. An American visual interpreter who spoke at Northern Voice; a conference I attended in British Columbia. She uses drawing to help people capture what they mean. I’m going to use audio, video, pictures and editing software. Here is a bit more, direct from me on how I see this project unfolding:

Why not do a Q+A with the candidates themselves. Spacing readers seem to share a common interest so ask candidates about those.
Approach community associations. Let them take you around their communities and ask (would be) politicians how they suggest to fix the problems.
Approach high school students in graphic programs or in student parliaments and have them do some questioning.
Is that what you had in mind?
